Hi, this is Vanessa, your salon host.
The fight over redistricting is hitting overdrive in California.
Democrats in the state legislature just approved a plan that could tilt our congressional map in their favor - and place California in another confrontation with President Donald Trump.
Republicans, who stand to lose more than half their seats in the state, say the scheme is a self-serving power grab.
But Governor Gavin Newsom and his supporters say they are saving democracy by stopping Trump from rigging the outcome of the 2026 midterms.
Ultimately, it’s us, the California voters, who decides the winner of that battle in a special election this November.
Join me at Capital Books on K Street for a talk with experts in state politics, elections and redrawing Congressional maps as we talk about Proposition 50 — what it is, why we’re voting on it, who would win and lose if it passes or doesn’t pass, and how it will affect us this November and next November for the midterm elections.
OUR GUESTS:

* Evan McLaughlin, vice-president of Redistricting Partners, the firm that drafted the map proposals we voters will decide on later this year.
