Welcome to the ENLIGHTENMENT Trivia Night, in which you play a thematic game each time, and also play for a great cause.
For February, of course we have to focus on Love. But who do we often love more than anyone else in the world? Our pets! So you’ll be answering questions about household pets and how much we love them in categories ranging from Geography (Pets around the world?) and History (Pets who have changed the world?), to Sports (Athletes and their favorite pets?) and Songs (Top 10 hits by musicians singing ballads to their pets?) and more.
The charitable cause you’ll be supporting is Front Street Shelter’s HOAP (Homelessness Outreach and Assistance Program), which provides medical care for the pets of unhoused people. They do everything from vaccines and flea treatments to reuniting pets with their owners when they’re separated during crises. Because yes, people are happier when they have loving animals by their side, even when they lack housing.
If you want to know more about HOAP, read more in this wonderful story by Daryl Rowland in KVIE’s “Abridged” newsletter. I didn’t know anything about HOAP before I read it, but this Trivia Night is for you and me to help a truly great cause do more to help homeless people and their pets in the Sacramento area.
Registration fee to play is $5 (that helps me cover the rent and SMUD bill for our new salon space). But your real ticket to play is bringing something a HOAP client could use for their pet — cans of unopened dog or cat food, gently-used leashes, harnesses and kennels — or if you feel more generous, buying something on HOAP’s Wish List on Amazon list.
Prizes go to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners.
Teams of up to 6 people. And don’t worry about coming solo — we’ll pair you with other people to make up a great team.
I’ll provide a few drinks and snacks, but please feel free to BYO.
