Hi, it’s Vanessa, your ENLIGHTENMENT host.

To love another person is to encounter both their strengths and their shortcomings. So what does it mean to truly see someone—not just as we wish they were, but as they are? And what does it ask of us to be seen in that same way?

In this Philosophy Café, we’ll explore these questions together by stepping into a virtual dialogue among three philosophers from different times and traditions. Derek Lam, professor of philosophy at CSU Sacramento, will steer us through the conversation. Through their competing perspectives, we’ll try to orient ourselves within a deeply human—and often disorienting—experience: loving imperfect people, and being loved as one.

No prior background in philosophy needed—just curiosity and a willingness to think together.

Tickets are $10 general admission, $5 for students. I’ll bring some brunchtime drinks and snacks. BYO is very much encouraged.
