Trivia-yaki Night for a Great Cause: Big in Japan!

  • ENLIGHTENMENT Salon 2221 10th Street Sacramento, CA, 95818 United States (map)

Welcome to the ENLIGHTENMENT Trivia Night, in which you play a thematic game each time, and also play for a great cause.

This month’s trivia questions will be all about Japan, its people, places, things and influence on us Amerikajin.

“I don’t know anything about Japan,” you say? Come find out the funny and pun-ny ways I’ll incorporate info about Japan into questions on world geography, American sports and global pop culture.

The great cause you’ll be supporting is the renovation and re-use of the historic Nisei War Memorial Community Center in Downtown Sacramento. It’s the last remaining property associated with the city’s once vibrant Japantown, which was largely dismantled in 1942 when Japanese Americans were incarcerated in camps around the country. Over time, the building fell into disrepair. It gained new life in 2021 when designated a historic landmark on the Sacramento Register of Historic & Cultural Resources.

The first phase of restoration aims to improve the ground floor for community gatherings and event rentals. Work includes a new ceiling, roof, electrical upgrades and paint.

Registration fee to play is $10, with all proceeds going to Nisei Hall renovations.

Prizes — including tickets to a San Francisco Giants game on July 8! — go to the 1st and 2nd place winners.

Teams of up to 6 people. And don’t worry about coming solo — we’ll pair you with other people to make up a great team.

I’ll provide a few drinks and snacks, but please feel free to BYO.
